About Our Organization

We are a non-profit public service corporation designed for our members to meet and share their experience, strength and hope with each other because of our common concern for people trying to achieve and maintain a life free from the use of alcohol or drugs.

The Alano Club offers the recovering alcoholic a place to go, to take a break and have a cup of coffee with men and women who understand the program and the process of recovery. We come together to find support and to learn about the many other resources available to the recovering alcoholic in our community.

Alcoholics Anonymous does not finance or lend its name to any outside organization. The Alano Club is an outside organization, separate and distinct from AA, Alanon, or any treatment facility. Each meeting held at the club is conducted by an autonomous group, and each group pays rent to the club to help pay expenses. Membership in the Alano Club is independent of membership in any of the various organizations who use the club's facilities for their meetings.

Current programs and activities

The Alano Club is open 15 hours per day, 365 days per year, and hosts over 1500 12-Step meetings annually, as well as alcohol- and drug-free family picnics, barbecues, dances, holiday meals and gatherings, and community workshops on various aspects of alcohol and drug recovery. For those in early recovery, the Club serves as the focal point for recovery in the city of Santa Barbara – the site of meetings as well as a literature center and a social and recreational facility... more

Club organization

The club is governed by a Board of volunteer directors elected from club membership. We also have a manager.

Benefiting from the Club

The Alano Club was founded by and serves recovering alcoholics, addicts and family members dedicated to helping their fellows – a group that includes teenagers, singles, couples, grandparents, the well-established and the homeless, the employed and the jobless, those referred by the court system, and clients and graduates of other programs around the city. Though no one is turned away from participation, the club has a paid membership of approximately 200 and a volunteer membership of newcomers who assist in club operations. Program participants number about 900 weekly. People benefit from having a central place to hold 12 step meetings and to socialize before and after meetings without the presence of alcohol and other drugs. Younger members in particular benefit from clean and sober social activities (the club boasts the largest dance floor in Santa Barbara).

Membership Details

Club membership is open to all. Members include non-alcoholics who support the objectives of the Alano Club, the family and friends of recovering alcoholics, and recovering alcoholic and addicts. Dues are $30 for three months or $120 per year.
